Division Game Show

Division can be such a difficult math concept for 3rd graders to master. That’s why I love to use this fun Division Game Show to help my 3rd graders practice the concepts – but also have fun while doing it!

For teachers – this type of math review is so easy. There is zero planning required other than setting up teams for the game. It’s paperless, so there is no time spent copying pages of practice sheets, and you save ink.

How to Play Division Game Show for 3rd Grade

This game is played in PowerPoint in presentation (Slide Show) mode. Ideally, you will use it for whole class division review, but it could be used by students in a math center too.

As mentioned, the only thing you need to do before playing this game with your class is set up 3 teams. You can name the teams or just call them Team 1, 2, and 3. The score-keeping slide in this game is easy to access from every slide, so you can calculate scores or check to see who is ahead really easily.

1. Student teams will choose a category and select a question from it. For example, Equal Groups for 100. You will click on the 100 tab and the question will be revealed.
2. Give the student team time to answer the question, then reveal the answer.
3. If they get it correct, you will click on the calculator link, which takes you to the score page and enter the points for that team.

It’s that easy.

The only thing you need to remember NOT to do – is to exit from the presentation mode. If you do, the game and scores are reset back to the default.

Division Categories in this Game Show

There are five categories in the Division Game show for 3rd Grade:

1. Divisors, Dividends, and Quotients
2. Equal Groups
3. Missing Numbers
4. Related Facts
5. Word Problems

Division Game Show Category 1: Dividends, Divisors, and Quotients

The questions in this category use the math vocabulary terms: dividends, divisors, and quotients. This will challenge students to be able to understand the meaning of these terms so that they can apply them to the division question that is asked.

Division Game Show Category 2: Equal Groups

Given groups of objects, students will have to give the groups a division equation that matches it. Some of multiple ways to group the objects as well as multiple equations that would match. So, there are a few challenging questions that might stump them a little!

Division Game Show Category 3: Missing Numbers

This category tests students on their ability to find missing numbers within division equations. If they know their multiplication facts – this might be easy! But if they don’t – they will have to use other strategies to solve these missing number problems.

Division Game Show Category 4: Related Facts

This category brings multiplication and division together, so if your students have worked on fact families – this category will help them review those concepts.

Division Game Show Category 5: Word Problems

Solving word problems can be very challenging for students, so any extra practice will help them master it.
