Two things I know for sure is that students who are learning multiplication for the first time need practice – and – teachers need digital multiplication activities that their students in 3rd grade can access in the classroom and at home.
When students are introduced to multiplication, they need to see it expressed in ways they can connect to like repeated addition. Conceptually, this makes sense to them because they understand how addition works. They also need concrete ways to understand it – which is why I love to teach them how to use arrays to show multiplication equations.
That’s where this digital resource came in – it gives 3rd graders who are learning multiplication practice using repeated addition and arrays to represent multiplication equations – but also introduces them to the Commutative Property of Multiplication.
